Our Earth Breathes – We Can Help Her!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_JViFugTtNQ

“Breathing in, I know I am breathing in.  Breathing out, I know that I am breathing out”, is a beloved saying of Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hahn.  As the video shows above, we are not alone in the act of respiration.  Our Earth that sustains and feeds us is breathing as well.  The question could be asked, what are we feeding her??

The Institute of Hearth Math who has done many years of scientific research on the power of the heart to inform our actions, feelings and thoughts believes that we should ask this question.  The passage below from their most recent newsletter addresses this question:

What Are You Feeding the Field?
This Earth Day, we all can pause to assess what our emotions are contributing to our environment, how we are feeding the field environment. This goes beyond conserving and respecting Earth’s resources. Everyone must ask, “What am I feeding the field?”Personal experience tells us when we are angry, inhospitable and uncaring, we affect not only ourselves, but also those around us. Consider how one unkind, thoughtless or angry person affects a roomful of people; the feeling of discomfort and negative energy is noticeable. Conversely, have you ever felt the change a room’s atmosphere undergoes upon the entrance of a vibrant, cheerful or positive person? What if people around the world intentionally experienced sincere love, care, compassion and other positive emotions simultaneously and fed this positive energy into the global field environment? This question led to an experiment, and after nearly five years, more than 40,000 members of the resulting Global Coherence Initiative, with members in 87 countries, regularly feed positive energy and heart-focused care and intention into the planetary field environment.Collectively, we create a field that interacts with the Earth’s magnetic field and energetic systems. As people intentionally send coherent love and care to the world, a more powerful heart-filled environment is created. This helps to build a reservoir of positive energy that benefits the planet. This reservoir can then be utilized to help bring balance and stabilization to people, thereby making it easier to find solutions to problems like climate change, the destruction of the rain forests and other global issues. There is more to this phenomenon than the feeling you get. HeartMath researchers repeatedly have categorized real mental and physical changes study participants undergo when they experience positive and negative emotions. HeartMath and other research shows that focusing on core heart-felt emotions can enhance one’s connection with others, and that this connection extends far beyond the individual. The research article Coherence: Bridging Personal, Social, and Global Health concludes that being responsible for and increasing our personal coherence are not only reflected in improved personal health and happiness but also feed into and are reflected in a global field environment. ” Institute of Heart Math**************************************

As we breathe from a place informed by our heart our breath opens and becomes more fluid and easeful.  We then change the environment of this “global field”….thus making better decisions for the health of our planet, which is essentially intimately connected to our own health.  Remember on this 2012 Earth Day celebration………EVERY DAY IS EARTH DAY!

Soulful Breath

There is an organization called Playing For Change that travels globally, as well as connects musicians all over the world, on behalf of healing and connecting all of us through music.   I haven’t yet found a video that they have done that I haven’t overwhelmingly enjoyed.  However the most recent one below has to be one of the most SOULFUL pieces I have heard in a very long time!

Listening to this I couldn’t keep still and I found the music moving me in body, heart, soul and breath!  It wasn’t about the words….it was about the feeling within the voice, the passion in the depths of the music, the interconnection between all of the group that created the deep soulful rendering of a very old song.

When I drop into what a “soulful breath” is I feel that it has these same qualities.  The feeling and quality within the breath.  You have an opportunity every time you breathe to put some “soul” in it so to speak.  Passion for your life, the relationships you are creating, and the way you treat your environment.

Does your breath reach way down into the depths of your lungs, belly, hips, and back?  Or does it show up as a shallow rendition of your life?  Is there passion as you breathe and move, or are you on automatic?  What if your breath was your lover.  Would you pay more attention to it then?

Take some time to listen to this Playing For Change song soulfully rendered by the Blind Man….and if you are not moved physically and deep down into your very soul…… then you better check your pulse! (and your breathing!)

Be A Breath of Life

Baha’i Prayer for Peace

Be generous in prosperity, and thankful in adversity.
Be fair in thy judgement, and guarded in thy speech.
Be a lamp unto those who walk in darkness, and a home to the stranger.
Be eyes to the blind, and a guiding light unto the feet of the erring.
Be a breath of life to the body of humankind,
a dew to the soil of the human heart,
and a fruit upon the tree of humility.

The shape of our life depends on how willing we are to create a masterpiece.  As my life unfolds itself I sometimes wonder what shape it will take next….forgetting that it is in my hands as I take a breath,  release it completely, and trust that I will be guided within the spaciousness that shows up with the next exhale.

Do you forget that the person standing next to you in the interminably long line is affected by the quality of your breath?  In fact the person sitting at the edge of the Ganges mourning the loss of a loved one is also affected by your breath, as is the whale that breaches out of the depths of the ocean.  The question is, will you be a catalyst for love and peace….or yet another addition to the anxiety and fear that strangles and contracts the life that we all have been given?

The choice is to be a breath of life, even amidst our own fears and longings.  Your life and those dear to you, as well as the entire planet, need your breath of life.  Since we all share the air would it not be a good practice to relax into the next exhale with all of the love you can possibly embody in one brief moment of time?  There is the peace….

Occupy Breath

“Love is the felt experience of connection to another being. An economist says ‘more for you is less for me.’ But the lover knows that more of you is more for me too. If you love somebody their happiness is your happiness. Their pain is your pain. Your sense of self expands to include other beings. This shift of consciousness is universal in everybody, 99% and 1%.” ~ Charles Eisenstein

Today I had the powerful experience of viewing a taste of the upcoming feature documentary, Occupy Love.  It reminded me once again of the powerful shift in consciousness that is happening globally right now, and I do believe that the internet has a great deal to do with it.  Many indigenous peoples have know for centuries of the deep interconnection that connects us all.  They called it the web of life.  Yet, little did they know that we would “artificially” create this “web” with our technology in the years to come.

Many of us experience this interconnectedness on a deeply felt level every single day of our lives. We are all empathic.   You only have to go out into nature and observe for a little bit to see this fact in vivid display.

Our breath is just as interconnected as the internet, the bees in a hive, a pod of dolphins on the other side of the world, the atoms that make up the body you are inhabiting, or a group of people that have chosen to “Occupy Wall St”.

The only reason why you have enough air to breathe is that we have an unspoken agreement that all life will share it together.  We are gifting it to each other – every human, plant, mountain, animal, insect, cell, river.   Somewhere under all the strife, wars, economic greed, consumerism and self absorption there is a blueprint for conscious and heart felt giving.  That blueprint is becoming clearly visible now and is harder and harder to disregard.

In our every inhale and exhale we are giving and receiving….an atmosphere teeming with life – our life.  Since we are intimately and consciously sharing the air we breathe with every living thing, how can we feel separate?  Occupy your breath fully so that the gifts you have to bring to the world are clearly coming from a fully embodied human in touch with the heart of matters.

“What we want to create is the more beautiful world our hearts tell us is possible. A sacred world. A world that works for everybody. A world that is healing. A world of peace. ”  Occupy Wall St – The Revolution Is Love

There is one way of breathing that is shameful and constricted.  Then there’s another way; a breath of love that takes you all the way to infinity.”

Breathing and Moving In Life

To my faithful readership – there has been a reason for a lapse in current posts.  Not for want of interest in the breath, but instead because the breath is taking me to new levels within my own life.

There are two projects that have my attention and that I am breathing into.  One is a book on the breath that I will publish before the end of the year, and the other is a newly launched website with my dear friend and business partner Richard Cawte in the UK.

In reference to the former you shall have notification and a sneak preview within a month or so.  For the website please feel free to go to:  IgniteWealthNow and explore, contribute, and make comments.

One of the pages on the website called Inspire/Connect/Enrich begins with a video that I wish to share here.  When we breathe, see, feel and listen to our lives from deep within our heart and soul something amazing happens.  We live our lives and perceive life itself differently.

When we are in gratitude, in the presence of beauty, moved by a persons words, focused on a project or cause that has great meaning for us, or dwelling in our creative imagination our breath expands. We lengthen up through our spine and the heart has more space to open.

More and more of us are awakening to our purpose here in this lifetime and how we breathe is reflective of this movement from the deepest part of our being.  It is not always easy in our over stimulated lives to capture the essence of what is really important., nor do we always know how to take the next step.

However, the breath is ever moving and always renewing itself.  Take inspiration from the breath and direction from your heart.  All will unfold from there.

Do take some moments to watch this video presentation by Louie Schwartzberg below, and join Do As One on the Fall Equinox, 9/23, by breathing together with others across the globe to usher in the change of seasons.
