Soul Musings/Day 9: Infinite Patience

Infinite Patience by Pamela Turczyn

With so many demands on our time and attention this time of year patience certainly can grow a little thin at times. Pamela Turczyn, the creator of the mandala above in collaboration with the maple tree, has created a practice that is actively “listening for something unfamiliar”.

This “unfamiliar” place rests in a vast space where patience resides. A space that can only be accessed if you commit to being in the present breathing moment.

I invite you to connect with this mandala through the rings of the maple tree that are represented here. Awareness on the breath deepens the experience and allows the journey to come to you.

Open attention, breath and soft visual focus will open you to the moment. A moment of Infinite Patience….

“A maple tree with a special gift for it advised me that Patience has to do with one’s relationship with time; to cultivate Patience, one must be fully present in the moment. To do so, try silencing the inner monologue by first shifting to an attitude of open attention, as though you were listening for something unfamiliar.

~Practice Patience by visually tracking the curvy edges of tree rings in this mandala. You could do this using just your eyes, or you use could a capped pen or blunt pencil as a tool to trace along the edges.

Without rushing, follow every dip and projection all the way around one of the circular rings. Keep your focus on the exact point on the ring where you are at, without looking behind or projecting forward. Slow down if you find yourself jumping ahead. There is no reward for finishing quickly but there is a prize for bringing yourself present.

In the present moment, there is no past or future. Instead, there is an expansive sense of the eternal, a space where Infinite Patience resides.

~An alternate route to the same expansive destination involves gazing at the center of the mandala with soft eyes. Stay with it and you will notice movement as various tree rings appear to come forward while others recede. As you are held by fascination with what is happening, a portal in the center of the mandala will open, bringing you in contact with the old maple tree and the vibration of Infinite Patience.”

Soul Musings/Day 8: The Final Pause

the-days-last-breath

“The last breath we just took has been preceded by a series of inspirations, pauses, and expirations. At some point we release our final breath and transition on to what awaits us.

When you look back at your life in that very final out breath are you filled with wonder at what you have created? Have you allowed yourself to be all that you were meant to Be during this lifetime…. and remembered that with every inhale and with every exhale life and death is recreated over and over.

We actually never know when the next exhale will be our last. We can live in fear of this and a myriad of other things – or we can follow the wisdom and direction that resides within every breath we take, enjoying and learning from the moments of this incredible life we have been given.

What a wise sage is our breath. Always present and willing to guide – if we will only pause long enough to listen. “

Soul Musings/Day 7: Rushing to Yoga

savasana

Time got away from me this morning and I forgot to listen to my Soul.

The Sunday morning yoga class ritual was to start in 30 minutes and I was still at home.

Throwing my props into the car I drove like a mad woman to what was in reality only 10 minutes away.

Contracted breath and frantic thinking clouded the fact that I was indeed going to a yoga class.

As I entered the street that the studio was on awareness flooded through almost knocking me over with the ridiculousness of what I was doing.

How many times in a day do we forget?

Forget that this is our life right now, not 30 minutes from now when we will be in a class focused on a moment to moment awareness of breath and body.

And Soul laughed….. as the peace of awareness descended.

Soul Musings/Day 6: Essensual Breath

senses

All life that came before us depended on senses to navigate their particular place in the world, their physical survival actually depending upon it. As this connection deepens, and in some cases returns, our direct experience of life in the moment expands.

Simply taking one full breath floods our sense of smell with scent as nasal passages are stimulated.

Increases visual depth and acuity as oxygen stimulates our visual receptors.

Creates a soft sound that reminds us we are alive.

Expands ribcage, back and belly massaging the organs and moving the fluids within.

Increases sensitivity to touch as the breath moves in and out.

Stimulating appetite to “taste” more of life, enhancing aliveness…

….with simply one essensual breath.

Soul Musings/Day 5: Cherishing Breath

1890987_667989366572766_1634185888_n

Let’s pretend for a moment that our beloved is named “Breath”. How would our present relationship with our breathing change?

If breath became shallow and contracted we might take some moments to notice and then soften shoulders, neck, facial muscles and belly/pelvis so that Breath could expand, relax and feel our love.

In those times when Breath leaves us all together for moments at a time, we might decide to invite Breath out for a walk, run, or a dance around the room embracing every inhale and exhale making certain that Breath feels they are the most important part of our life.

When Breath becomes all out of sorts coming and going in short bursts and irregular rhythms, we might offer a gentle touch or massage, or share laughter to soothe the “savage beast”, opening Breath back again to the natural innate rhythm that Breath prefers to live within…..and where your relationship thrives.

It may be a challenge to have Breath as a lover since you cannot see Breath, nor touch Breath, but as Helen Keller said – “The most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched, they must be felt with the heart.”

Without Breath we would not be here to cherish others. Without other beings we would not learn all the ways to cherish ourselves.
